iPadOS Safari TipsSafari on iPadOS is the most powerful Safari has ever been on the iPad. Since the update to iPadOS 14, Safari acts like a full functioning computer browser and websites recognize it as such. Safari is no longer seen as a mobile browser on iPads. Which means you have the power of a desktop browser on an iPad along with some very functional tools on the iPad. Here you will find tips to help you with Reader View, bookmarks, screenshots, and several other overlooked features used in Safari in iPadOS.

Reader View
Turn on Reader ViewIf you find your websites to be too cluttered you can use the “Reader” feature built into the Safari browser. To activate the “Reader” feature, load a website and look for the aA on the left side of the URL bar.
Tap on the aA and the colors will invert turning black and gray. From there you will notice that your website also changes and removes all the ads and links. Making the website easier to read.

There are also some settings you can change when you are in Reader View. When you are in Reader View you can increate and decrease the font size, change the background color for ease of reading, or change the font to something that is easier to understand. All of these features can make a difference for comprehension.

Save a Website
To interact or save a website like an app find Add to Home Screen. To add a website to the Home Screen, tap the SHARE icon in your toolbar. Find the ADD TO HOME SCREEN button. A text box will pop up and allow you to change the name of the new Web Clip. Once saved, the Web Clip will be added to your Home Screen and look like an app that opens in Safari.

When you save it to your Reading List it saves like a bookmark. When you save for the first time you will be asked if you would like to Save Automatically or Don’t Save Automatically. If you don’t Save Automatically you have the option to Save Offline by swiping left on the article. When you save an article offline you can read the website without internet access.

Overlooked Features
Return to the Top QuicklyIf you’ve ever wanted to get back to the top of a website, document, or social media feed quickly without having to scroll all the way back to the top, simple TAP THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. When you TAP THE TOP OF THE SCREEN, you will be immediately taken back to the top of a website, app, or feed in which you were scrolling.

Find a Word on the PageIf you are looking for a word or phrase in a website you can easily search by choosing the SHARE button > FIND ON PAGE. From here you can type in what you are looking for and Safari will tell you how many times it was found on the page and you can scroll through the items found on the website.

Markup a WebsiteIf you would like to Markup a website by writing on it or highlighting important information you can do it easily. To Markup a website tap on the SHARE button > MARKUP. The website will be converted to a PDF. If you click the pen tool in the top right corner your will Markup tools will appear at the bottom of the document. When you are done marking up your document, tap DONE and you can save the PDF to the Files on the iPad .

Save a Screenshot as a PDFTo save an entire website as a PDF simply take a screenshot. When the screenshot appears in the bottom left corner tap on it. When the screenshot opens to full screen at the at the top of the screen you can change your screenshot from Screen to Full Page. The difference between Screen and Full Page is that Screen just gives you a snapshot of what you saw when you took the picture while Full Page gives you a PDF of the whole article. After you've made your changes you can markup the document if you'd like and tap DONE. You will be asked to save your PDF to the Files on your iPad.
