iPad Accessibility SettingsThis is a page that will demonstrate some helpful Accessibility Settings you can use for yourself or with your students that will enhance the iPad experience. You can find out how to enable Speak Screen and Speak Selection, Screen Zoom, Display Accommodations, Guided Access, and Assistive Touch.

Spoken Content Settings
Turn on Speak Selection & Speak ScreenYou will find the features in your Settings app

Voice Over - Speak ScreenTo get started with Speak Screen, “Swipe Down” with two fingers from top of the screen. Reading will immediately begin starting from text at the top of the screen. As the iPad reads the screen your content will be highlighted. You can control your speed - turtle (down)/rabbit (up), skip ahead, or pause the reading. When you're done with the reading, click the X in the control bar and the screen will no longer read. This should work on any screen or app with text.

Speak SelectionTo get started with Speak Selection, press and hold the selection you’d like read. A callout will popup with the option Speak, tap "Speak” and the device will begin speaking. When you’re done, “Tap Pause” and the device will stop reading.

Zoom the Screen
By turning on the Zoom feature you are able to magnify sections of the screen to make them easier to read. To enable the feature go to SETTINGS > ACCESSIBILITY > ZOOM and turn the slider to green. To turn on the feature when you are using your iPad:

Display Accommodations
If you have trouble viewing the iPad display you can customize the display settings to make the screen easier to read. Some of the Display Accommodations you can adjust are to Bold Text, Enlarge Text, Increase Contrast, Differentiate without Color. Invert Colors, create Color Filters to differentiate for color blind users or those who have difficulty reading text on display, and more. To turn on Display Accommodations go to SETTINGS > ACCESSIBILITY > DISPLAY & TEXT SIZE.

Guided Access
Guided Access keeps the iPad in single app mode, locks the display, and allows you to control which features the user has access. To enable Guided Access go to SETTINGS > ACCESSIBILITY > GUIDED ACCESS. To start using Guided Access, go into any app and TRIPLE-CLICK the Home button to start. You will be asked to create a passcode to start the session and unlock the session to exit Guided Access. You can also set a time limit for how long Guided Access will run.

Assistive Touch
Assistive Touch allows you to use your iPad if you have difficulty touching the screen or need an adaptive accessory. You can customize the top level with as few as one item and as many as 8 items. You can also create custom actions and custom gestures, along with changing several other features. To enable Assistive Touch navigate to SETTINGS > ACCESSIBILITY > TOUCH > ASSISSTIVE TOUCH and flip the switch to green. Assistive Touch is also great for making videos to help point out exactly what people should be looking at in the video or demonstration.
