LoomWith Loom, you can record your screen, voice, and/or face to create an instantly shareable video in less time than it would take to type an email. Loom is a great screen recording tool for educators because it's free and allows for unlimited recording time. The free version for the general public only allows for recordings of up to 5 minutes but for only $8 a month you get all of the features in Loom.
After a recording is complete, videos are stored directly online and you can share the videos through a link or invite other team members on your platform to edit the video with you. You can also take a recorded video and download it to edit in another platform. A few other nice editing tools with Loom are the ability to trim the video and create a call to action button within the video. You can also receive analytics for the videos in your library.

QuicktimeQuicktime is an amazing tool that comes pre-installed on Macintosh computers. With the software you have an unlimited recording length based on hard drive space. You can also use the software to record yourself from a webcam, record your computer screen, and easily record an iPad or phone. You can also use Quicktime to create longer videos by dragging and rearranging different clips you might have on your computer. Watch the video to the left to learn more.
Some of the negatives trying to record with Quicktime are that it's difficult to record your webcam and the screen recording at the same time. To make it happen you need to have two instances of Quicktime running and it doesn't always work. Secondly, there can be some issues with the compatibility of the .mov filetype when you share the video with others. To ease any compatibility issues you most likely need to upload your video to a third-party website. Finally, the Quicktime software is only available on a Mac so if you have a Windows machine you are out of luck.

ZoomZoom is a great option to record because it's free and many people are already familiar with the platform. The recordings save directly to your computer. However, if you are not an educator you are limited to a 40 minute recording limit. Most screen recordings aren't 40 minutes so it isn't usually be a problem. Using Zoom to share your screen is easy and it also records your face on the screen too. You can easily record your screen share with or without an audience and the Zoom filetype is compatible with most software.
A few downsides to using Zoom as your screen recording tool are when you record the faces of everyone on the call show up unless you change your display settings. With this feature sometimes student privacy can be an issue. Also, when videos are saved after a session the video is saved to your computer so you will most likely need a third-party to host and share your video.
